Ryedale Family History Group’s next meeting is on Wednesday 15 February at 7.30pm, and will be held at The Moorside Club and Bar, Kirkbymoorside.
The speaker is Freda Shaw, who will be taking about ‘The Village School’, giving a potted history of how the church was involved in early education, with Sunday Schools providing opportunities for the poorer families to gain some learning basics, then onto developing day schools; and following legislation which went onto establish education for all children and for a school to be provided in each town and village.
Freda Shaw, Programme Secretary for Ryedale Family History Group and who is also a School Foundation Governor said:
The school was of great importance for the local community and I will draw on the history and reminiscences of St. Hilda’s school at Ampleforth to give a picture of life in a village school. There has been a school in Ampleforth since 1833”.
The meeting is open to everyone and refreshments will be available along with a raffle. If you live in the area and need transport to this meeting or any future meeting, please contact the office on 01653 628132 or mobile 07813 977613 or email: firstname.lastname@example.org
